Host Card Emulation: An Emerging Architecture for NFC Applications

Webinar Date: Thursday, June 18, 2015, 1pm ET/10am PT

Host card emulation (HCE) supporters see the technology as providing a new architecture for implementing NFC mobile, payment and other secure applications, but there are still many questions. To answer these questions, the Smart Card Alliance Mobile Council hosted webinar on Host Card Emulation (HCE). This webinar provided an educational resource for issuers, mobile wallet providers, merchants, transit agencies, and any other stakeholders implementing, or considering implementing, an HCE application.

The webinar discussed HCE at a non-technical management level, including:

  • Describing what HCE is and how it has evolved; how it works; how it differs from a secure element implementation
  • Describing security approaches that can be used to mitigate HCE-related risks
  • Discussing real-world implementations where HCE has been used, including payment and non-payment use cases

Webinar speakers included Randy Vanderhoof, Smart Card Alliance; Sadiq Mohammed, MasterCard; Peter Helderman, UL; and Sree Swaminathan, First Data.
