Smart Card Alliance Securing Federal Identity 2016 Agenda Covers Advances in Identity Management and Authentication in Government
Leading identity security showcase to be held June 6 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, Washington, D.C.
Princeton Junction, N.J., May 19, 2016 – Cybersecurity, strong authentication, and derived credentials are some of the topics that will drive the discussion at Securing Federal Identity 2016 this June, an event hosted for the 15th year by the Smart Card Alliance. The event will feature federal government and security industry leaders speaking on adoption of strong authentication platforms in government, PIV credentials, and physical and logical access control, as well as updates from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the General Services Administration (GSA).

The event will feature a keynote presentation by Chuck Romine, director of the Information Technology Laboratory at NIST, which oversees all identity related standards and implementation guidelines for the federal government. In addition to the keynote session, speakers from the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Treasury, Department of Defense, OMB, GSA, NIST, the U.S. Navy and other organizations will discuss in-depth all of the biggest topics impacting government identity in this one-day event, including:
- Federal policies on the usage of secure PIV credentials
- Developments in the testing and deployment of derived credentials on mobile devices
- PIV credentials usage by federal agencies for two-factor authentication
- Building efficient, effective strong authentication for state and federal government using PIV-I
- Evolving NIST standards for cybersecurity frameworks and mobile services
- Cyber threats and mitigation programs
- Requirements for effective use of PIV credentials in physical access security systems
In addition to informative conference sessions, an identity management and access control vendor showcase will be held to allow government attendees to visit and learn more about innovative security products and services enabling secure federal identities today and in the future.

Following the one-day event, the Smart Card Alliance’s three identity and access security member councils— Access Control, Health and Human Services, and Identity — will meet in-person for a joint meeting on June 7 at the Alliance’s National Center for Advanced Payments and Identity Security, in Arlington, Virginia. The councils will discuss their roles in the federal government identity market, opportunities and challenges in access control in the commercial markets, key developments impacting the identity and healthcare markets, and discuss priorities and projects for the second half of 2016.
