Smart Card Alliance Unveils Online Catalog of Smart Card Readers

Searchable Database Will Connect Businesses With the Right Hardware Solutions

New York, NY, July 29, 2002–The Smart Card Alliance announced today that it has launched a searchable Web-based catalog that will make it easier for businesses to locate appropriate smart card readers based on specific needs. The catalog is the newest addition to the Alliance’s Web site and can be accessed here.

Users can browse the entire catalog with the click of a mouse and search for products according to card reader type, interface type and application environment. The catalog also performs keyword searches.

The Alliance’s card reader catalog is a first for the smart card industry. After the catalog’s search engine returns a list of appropriate products and a particular reader is selected, users are provided with the name of its manufacturer, vendor contact information, and a product description. Additional information about the reader is also available through a link to the manufacturer’s Web site.

“With a multitude of readers, interfaces and options on the market, finding the right product for the task at hand can be a challenge for those implementing or upgrading smart card systems,” said Randy Vanderhoof, Smart Card Alliance President and CEO, “The Alliance’s new catalog puts technical and contact information at their fingertips. It’s one more way that the Smart Card Alliance is providing valuable resources to promote card use.”

The smart card reader catalog was developed by the Alliance’s Digital Security Initiative, which works to promote the use of smart card technology in network security programs. Over time, the Alliance plans to expand the smart card reader catalog to include smart cards and software, creating a valuable one-stop reference guide for government and business.

The Alliance has also announced that its annual conference “Catalysts for Change” will be held on October 7-10, 2002 at the Marriott Camelback Inn Resort, Golf Club and Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona. This event will showcase how smart cards are being used in diverse industries to enhance infrastructure and improve customer relationships.

The Alliance’s Educational Institute will offer its Smart Card 101 introductory and 201 advanced courses during this event. Online registration will be available soon.
