The Smart Card Alliance developed this white paper to educate stakeholders across the payments value chain about the critical aspects of deploying an EMV solution in their business environments in the U.S. The white paper describes the current state of the payments infrastructure in the U.S., discusses the impact of the global deployment of EMV on possible roadmaps, and provides a primer on EMV card authentication, cardholder verification and transaction authorization methods. For each stakeholder (issuers, merchants, acquirers/processors and ATM owners), the white paper outlines actions that need to be taken to issue EMV cards, and to accept and process EMV transactions.
