AMAG Technology Joins the Smart Card Alliance

Torrance, CA, January 8, 2004–AMAG Technology recently announced that it has joined the Smart Card Alliance (the Alliance), a not-for-profit organization formed in 1992 working to accelerate the acceptance of smart card technology in the U.S. AMAG’s membership in the Alliance marks another milestone in its extensive history pioneering the use of smart cards to create high security, high value industrial access control systems.

AMAG’s research on the application of smart cards in physical access control system in the early 1990’s earned them a role in some of the largest smart card-based access control projects in the U.S. The projects include customers such as the Department of Defense, the Department of the Interior and numerous other public- and private-sector customers.

“Moving smart cards to the next level of adoption in the U.S. will require a coordinated effort on the part of leading technology providers, integrators, and users,” said Robert Sawyer, President and CEO of AMAG Technology, Inc. “The Alliance is playing that role by centralizing the efforts of AMAG and others to promote standards and by educating public and private markets regarding the huge potential benefits of using smart card technology.”

“Security applications have become a major driver of smart cards in North America”, adds Randy Vanderhoof, Executive Director of the Alliance. “Having AMAG as a member of the Alliance will benefit the organization and the industry by adding needed expertise to address access control needs of the marketplace.”
