Bearing supplier Miba banks on EVVA and LEGIC security

Zurich, Switzerland, February 12, 2009
Miba’s main plant in Laakirchen in Austria employs around 700 staff producing complex friction bearings for use in machinery and engines. This means there are many people moving around the company day in, day out. This requires access control which can dictate precisely who has access to particular locations and when. Not only this, the security concept also had to be able to withstand the harsh stresses encountered in an industrial plant and it also had to have a long service life. There was also a need for complex solutions and a high degree of investment security. Together with LEGIC and SALTO, the Austrian manufacturer of locking and security equipment EVVA was able to cope with these exacting demands effortlessly.

“EVVA products were already in use in our plant and we were very happy with them”, explains Thomas Böck, the engineer who is responsible for security and environmental issues at Miba in Laakirchen. “We wanted to extend our security system and deploy electronic access control with time & attendance monitoring besides mechanical locking cylinders. Once again, EVVA’s innovative solutions, its highly regarded partner network and extremely professional and friendly advice all impressed us.”

Protection against soiling

Miba’s main plant is one of the Group‘s biggest production sites and consists of 20 buildings. The plant has a total of around 500 doors fitted with EVVA mechanical 3KS locking cylinders (3-Curve System). 3KS is a very secure system – it is practically impossible to copy the keys – and the system is also extremely wear-resistant. Its spring-less operating principle and tough nickel-silver materials ensure ruggedness and a long service life. This makes it ideal for industrial enterprises where machinery, oil and materials are used.

Access control and time & attendance all in one

For economic reasons, in many companies the ideal goal is to combine mechanical and electronic security technology. This is also true of Miba. Mechanical technology provides a secure foundation. The electronic SALTO system with LEGIC contactless technology is used where there are special door situations – such as entrance gates, computer rooms and other sensitive areas of the company. This tried-and-tested locking system which is highly regarded all over the world not only ensures effective access control, it also includes time & attendance monitoring. The system records the times when employees come and go and only allows authorized persons access to specific areas.

Besides key fobs and cards, Miba also uses the EVVA Combi Key as a credential and this can be used to operate both mechanical and electronic locking systems. This means one credential is used for everything.
