Claro Brazil Selects Gemalto for Mobile Network Optimization
Sao Paulo, Brazil, Jan 11, 2011–Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security, announces the selection by Claro in Brazil to deploy an innovative software solution that enables significant optimization of network capacity and reduction in logistics costs. Claro is the largest mobile operator in the Americas, and is a part of América Móvil, one of four largest operators in the world connecting more than 200 million mobile subscribers. This selection marks the first time such a solution will be implemented in Brazil.
The number management solution will remove the requirement for Claro to stock pre-activated subscriber identification modules, enabling instead activation only when the mobile phone is switched on for the first time. It is initially targeted at prepaid subscribers and provides them with the option to choose their phone number(1). For Claro, the new process improves available network capacity, enabling more effective marketing initiatives.
“Gemalto has renowned expertise in digital security solutions, and we knew we could trust them with the sophisticated integration into our system,” said Bernardo Winik, director of operations and consumption, Claro. “Our main challenge was how to manage our prepaid number inventory more effectively and this solution makes it much easier for us to adapt to market demand. We expect significant cost reductions from this deployment.”
“Gemalto has developed a long-standing relationship with Claro, providing the operator with complex software and value-added services that enhance their subscribers’ mobile experience,” added Rodrigo Serna, Vice President Telecommunication for Latin America, Gemalto. “Our local presence in Latin America, specifically in Brazil, guarantees a seamless integration process as we can provide complete support before, during, and after implementation.”
