Cubic Receives Contract to Expand Clipper Fare Collection System

SAN DIEGO, Calif., October 26, 2012–As the Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) takes its first step to expand train service into Silicon Valley, it is also bringing its regionally interoperable Clipper® Card payment system to its new customers. Cubic Transportation Systems, Inc. has received a $10 million contract to deliver the fare collection system to Warm Springs/South Fremont and integrate it into the Clipper system. The Warm Springs Extension, scheduled to open in 2015, will add 5.4 miles of new track from the existing Fremont Station south to the Warm Springs District in Fremont.

“We are pleased to be part of a project that is so important to BART. This continues our relationship of providing fare collection technology to a longstanding customer, as well as furthering the reach of the Clipper system which has organized the region onto a single smart card across multiple agencies and multiple transit modes,” said Richard Wunderle, senior vice president and general manager, North America, for Cubic Transportation Systems.

Warm Springs Constructors, the consortium that is building the BART Warm Springs Track Extension Project, awarded the contract to Cubic Transportation Systems, a business unit of Cubic Corporation (NYSE:CUB) and a leading integrator of payment and information technology and services for intelligent travel solutions.

Cubic has delivered systems and services to BART since the company’s first contract in 1974. In 1999, Cubic received a contract for the replacement of the agency’s previous fare collection system and Cubic’s expansion of its new system to the then-new San Francisco Airport extension. In 2009, Cubic took over the Clipper Card contract to integrate and complete the project across the original partner agencies that had joined the system. Cubic is continuing to expand the system under its contract with the Metropolitan Transit Commission, the regional transportation authority.
