Gemalto Launches Protiva MedSecure: A Complete Strong Authentication Solution for the Healthcare Industry

The solution will be showcased at HITRUST 2012

HITRUST 2012, Dallas-Fort Worth – May 7, 2012 – Gemalto, the world leader in digital security, today announced the launch of Protiva MedSecure, a new solution package that addresses one of the biggest challenges facing healthcare providers today: a secure digital identity. Gemalto’s Protiva MedSecure provides a comprehensive portfolio of authentication software, digital credentials, secure devices, servers and associated services. The new Gemalto solution provides a single credential for secure visual identity, as well as physical and logical access to medical facilities and electronic medical records. In that way, Protiva MedSecure streamlines identity verification for first responders and medical staff.

With Protiva MedSecure, healthcare professionals are able to consolidate their numerous identification badges into one efficient and secure certificate-based credential. The single ID also enables simple login and logout at any terminal and access to different entrance points. Two-factor authentication provides validated online identity to ensure compliance with patient privacy and medical record protection. Additional security features such as encryption and digital signatures for medical forms, or verification of authenticity for medical orders, reduce physical paperwork and create efficient processes.

“Today’s medical professionals are burdened with an identity challenge. Protiva MedSecure directly addresses the most common healthcare IT needs with an easy to use security solution that protects medical records and provides consolidated logical and physical access, freeing medical staff to focus on what matters most–caring for patients,” said Tom Flynn, Vice President of Online Authentication for Gemalto North America.

Protiva MedSecure will be showcased at HITRUST 2012 for health information protection, May 7–9 in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. Gemalto will present “A Balancing Act: Ensuring Security of Healthcare Records while Eliminating the Need for Workers to Juggle Multiple Pieces of ID,” on Wednesday, May 9, at 9:30 a.m. CDT during the event.
