Gemalto Personalizes and Distributes New CEPAS-Compliant Concession Cards Issued by Singapore’s Land Transport Authority

Amsterdam and Singapore, March 4, 2009 – Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security, today announced it is providing end-to-end personalization and distribution services for new CEPAS-compliant concession cards issued by the Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA).

CEPAS stands for Contactless ePurse Application. It is an interoperable micro-payment platform for Singapore made possible by a joint collaboration by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), the Land Transport Authority and the industry. It allows multiple card issuers to issue a new generation of CEPAS-compliant cards that can be used for travel in public buses and metro, Electronic Road Pricing (ERP), Electronic Parking System (EPS) car parks and other electronic payment systems.

Gemalto is commissioned to securely personalize and distribute the new contactless CEPAS-compliant concession cards. Personalization with the cardholder’s digital identity and photograph for this project has been done for the concession cards for students, National Servicemen and Senior Citizens.

As part of Gemalto’s services to LTA, ‘roving centers’ are set-up at schools to issue the new cards to students on-site. This unique capability gives greater flexibility to address broad field-distribution requirements of secure objects.

“Our expertise expands beyond just development of smart cards. Our end-to-end services ranging from stringent secure personal data management and banking transaction processing, to reliable distribution and instant-issuance solutions, provide unparalleled convenience and security. It makes Gemalto proud to be able to contribute to the card replacement process for concession card holders,” said Tan Teck Lee, President, Gemalto Asia.
