Gemalto Provides Morocco’s Méditel with Phonebook Backup Service

Easy-to-use solution allows Méditel subscribers to restore their personal contacts in just one click

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, July 5, 2007–Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security, today announces that Méditel has launched its phonebook backup solution that enables subscribers to retrieve their personal contact lists in a very simple and convenient way. Méditel is the first operator to launch this phonebook backup service in North Africa, a service which has proven to offer strong “anti-churn” ability. Méditel initially rolled out its “copie contacts” service to its postpaid subscribers and in the second phase of the deployment, the operator will also make it available to its prepaid subscribers.

With Gemalto’s phonebook backup solution, Méditel subscribers can easily manage and save their contacts on demand, directly from their handset or through the operator’s website. Upon replacing a lost or stolen phone, users simply select the “synchronize” option in the menu of their new mobile phone to retrieve their personal data.

Méditel is deploying this innovative value-added service in order to differentiate itself in the booming Moroccan market. Just like their recent commercial launch of 3G services, this inventive and convenient solution contributes to the operator’s strategy to deliver premium offerings to its subscribers.

“Méditel is constantly looking for the newest and most innovative value-added services to offer to its subscribers,” commented Inigo Serrano, CEO of Méditel. “Gemalto provided us with a convenient, easy-to-use solution for recovering personal data, anytime, anywhere. We believe this compelling service will help us strengthen subscriber loyalty.”

“Gemalto is proud to provide protection for Méditel’s subscribers against the loss of their phonebook information, as it has become an invaluable resource and one of the most essential features,” added Philippe Vallée executive vice-president telecommunications at Gemalto. “We are confident that our phonebook backup solution will be a key differentiator for Méditel in the fast-growing Moroccan mobile communications market.”
