Gemalto Provides SIM-Based Windows® Live Mobile Instant Messaging to Personal Argentina

Customers of Personal Argentina can now access Windows® Live Messenger from their SIM card regardless of their type of mobile phone

Buenos Aires, February 9, 2009 – Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security, today announces the successful implementation of Microsoft’s Instant Messenger service built into Gemalto’s SIM cards. The innovation will be available for the Argentinean marketplace through Personal’s new SIM cards in the coming weeks. With 12 million subscribers, Personal is known for its value added services innovation based on Personal’s Chip and this is one of the latest services added to the new SIM services portfolio.

Since the Live Messenger application is incorporated into the SIM card, this innovation enables Personal subscribers to use Windows® Live to chat with friends and communities between mobiles, or even mobile to PC, regardless of the terminal.

Furthermore, this adaptation of the popular Microsoft product has all the same features as in a PC–viewing connected contacts, changing the message status to available, absent, busy, etc., and keeping several chat sessions open simultaneously, all this through a menu for easy and quick navigation, using mechanisms that assure security and user privacy. Additionally, as the service is available in the SIM card, subscribers can access the service anytime, anywhere, from any mobile device, meaning 100% service availability.

“Gemalto is bringing a major innovation in the Mobile Instant Messaging market, making the service available in the SIM card and providing a user friendly experience which should create a significant breakthrough in the penetration and usage of mobile internet services in Latin America,” said Fernando Oubina, Sales Manager for Gemalto Argentina. “This kind of service combines mobility and technology, besides providing a perfect user experience.”
