Gemalto Provides Swedish Citizens with Driving Licenses Incorporating World’s First Clear Window Security Feature

Cartes tradeshow, Villepinte, France, November 13, 2007–Gemalto, the world leader in digital security, today announced that it has introduced the world’s first clear window security feature on driving licenses for Swedish drivers. Under the contract, Gemalto provides the Swedish Road Administration with 600,000 driving licenses per year over the next three years–plus 2 optional years- including the latest innovation in security printing features: the Gemalto Sealys Clear Window is a transparent window in the pure polycarbonate structure for enhanced physical security that matches stringent expectations from criminal laboratory and national road authority of Sweden. The Swedish Road Administration will start delivering the new driving license to general public in December 2007.

“Sealys Clear Window technology showcases the utmost level of security for polycarbonate products. It is the result of Gemalto strong R&D and innovation lead,” commented Jacques Seneca, executive vice president for Security Business Unit at Gemalto. “Sweden is the first country to benefit from this kind of security features and it is an honor for Gemalto to contribute to that project.”
