Gemalto Reinforces its Presence in Poland
Tczew, Poland, May 25, 2010–Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security, today announced the inauguration of a new production line for core electronic passport technology in its Tczew-based facility in Poland. This new line enables the company to expand the activities of this site to the public sector and meet the increasing market demand both in the region and the rest of the world, with premium quality products manufactured in a highly secure environment.
Poland is a key country for Gemalto with new markets developing quickly, in particular in the public sector. This new production line aims at serving the domestic market and will also address major customers around the world, such as national printing houses in various countries. This move follows Gemalto’s successive investments in Poland since 1996. The opening of the Tczew factory in 2000 brought top level technology to Poland and created 450 jobs in a state of the art facility. Electronic passports and electronic identity cards are some of the most promising market segments in the digital security industry and Gemalto is leading the way.
“We are delighted to welcome Gemalto’s investment in bringing cutting-edge technology to the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone in Poland and the jobs that this will create,” commented Rafał Baniak, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Economy. “We are keen for this market to expand and for Poland to be deeply involved with the latest ePassport technology.”
“The combination of Gemalto’s high technology and very motivated local team stands us in good stead to produce and deliver best-in-class products and solutions for our customers”, commented Jacques Seneca, Executive Vice President, Security Business Unit. “Gemalto is the leader of the electronic Identity market with numerous references of successful national eID cards and ePassport projects worldwide. Our continued investment in Poland will help us to strengthen this leading position”.
This new investment is a testament to Gemalto’s dedicated focus on the electronic identity market. It builds on the existing production scope in Tczew and offers a cost-effective, comprehensive solution that covers the entire ePassport value chain. Gemalto also provides enrolment, personalization and border control solutions, as well as consultancy services to locally support its government customers in deploying or upgrading their ePassport projects.
Gemalto’s Tczew-based facility has received a number of customer satisfaction awards, and also received international certifications for ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 14001 (Environment Excellence) and OHSAS 18001 (Health & Safety Management).
