AUSTIN, TX, June 1, 2010 – Gemalto, the world leader in digital security, announced that its government-certified Smart Guardian (SG) FIPS, a smart card-based encrypted USB drive, received the Outstanding Innovation in Security Technology Award at the Smart Card Alliance 2010 Annual Conference in Arizona.

The Smart Card Alliance also recognized several Gemalto executives for their contribution and achievements in Alliance projects and activities. Neville Pattinson, Vice President of Government Affairs, was recognized as a leading figure in the Alliance Identity Council; Michael Magrath, Director of Business Development for Government and Healthcare, was recognized as a top contributor to the Alliance Healthcare Council; and Jack Jania, Vice President, Secure Transactions, was recognized for his work in the Alliance Contactless and Mobile Payments Council.

The SG FIPS is a smart card-based encrypted USB drive that has FIPS 140-2 level 3 certification, and meets the U.S. military 810-F environmental standard. It provides data-at-rest protection for all government data on the device without impacting user productivity. Agencies have the option to strongly bind the SG FIPS to their employees government issued Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential, granting access to the protected storage based upon a successful PIV authentication.
