Gemplus supplies O2 Ireland with 32k SIMs

Luxembourg, 14 January 2003–Gemplus (Paris Euronext: Euroclear 5768 and NASDAQ: GEMP), the world’s leading provider of smart card solutions, announces its selection by O2 Ireland for the supply of 32k SIM cards supporting the first integrated customer care menu with roaming management in Ireland.

The customer care package is available through a SIM ToolKit (STK) menu in the SIM, which provides easy and self-evident access to account management functions. This enables the subscriber to self-manage issues more effectively with less need to contact the customer call centre.

“By connecting the SIM into the client server architecture, Gemplus is able to provide O2 Ireland with a complete service that we can manage on their behalf. The Roaming Package means that they can provide regular updates to the preferred roaming list over the air. The use of the SIM as an application platform will enable O2 Ireland to deliver a new service to their subscribers, offering better user experience,” said Trevor Burns, Sales Manager, Gemplus Ireland.
