HID Expands the iClass 13.56 MHz Contactless Smart Card Reader Family with the Industry’s First Self-Contained Long Range Reader that Meets International Regulatory Standards

R90 Long Range Readers Ideal for Installations Incorporating Parking and Long Read Range with Access Control

IRVINE, Calif., September 12, 2005–HID Corporation, the premier manufacturer of contactless access control cards and readers for the security industry, today announced the expansion of its iCLASS® 13.56 MHz contactless smart card reader family with the introduction of the industry’s first, self-contained long range reader that meets international regulatory standards. For installations incorporating parking and long read range applications with access control, the R90 combines a longer read range with enhanced security through encryption and mutual authentication standard with HID iCLASS 13.56 MHz contactless smart card products. International regulatory standards and certifications include FCC (United States), CE Mark (Europe), and c-Tick (Australia).

“The R90 is an exciting release because it rounds out the iCLASS reader family offering customers a complete building access control solution. A single iCLASS card can provide parking lot and building access, as well as vending, POS, records and logical access, for a complete multi-application card,” said Jack Bubany, senior product manager for HID’s iCLASS products. “We offer an industry recognized standard for 13.56 MHz contactless smart card products, combined with the security and performance that you have grown to expect from HID, plus the experience to make system upgrades easy to implement.”

The R90 features read range distances up to 18 inches or 45 centimeters with auto- tuning enabling more consistent read ranges and a ‘Parking Hold’ function that allows connection to a loop detector to ensure accurate detection of vehicles in parking lanes. Featuring a tamper switch, all electronics are packaged in a single, rugged, indoor/outdoor, easy-to-install housing that mounts on metal with minimal read range impact. In addition, two R90s can operate simultaneously at one meter apart for ‘HI-LO’ truck and car installations. Audio indicators include tone sequences to signify access granted, access denied, power up and diagnostics, while a multicolor LED flashes from red to green with a beeper sound when a valid card is presented to the reader.

The R90 read-only contactless smart card long range reader is based on a 13.56 MHz technology platform that meets the ISO 15693 standard and includes a highly secure, 64-bit diversified key format for mutual authentication. The R90 Long Range Reader is programmable with a command card, enabling it to be field configurable and customizable. The R90 reads HID iCLASS 13.56 MHz contactless smart cards, any ISO 15693 card serial number (CSN) and is compatible with industry standard Wiegand protocol access control panels. The R90 is mountable indoors or out, includes a factory or field-configurable LED and speaker for the visually and hearing impaired, and to signify status, power up and diagnostics. The R90 measures 12 x 12 x 1.25 inches (30.48 x 30.48 x 3.18 centimeters) and comes with a lifetime warranty.

The iCLASS R90 Long Range Reader will be available in the fourth quarter of this year from HID?s network of distributors, OEMs, and system integrators worldwide.
