Hutchison 3G Selects SchlumbergerSema USIM Smart Card Solution
LONDON, (BUSINESS WIRE), Aug. 20, 2002–SchlumbergerSema, a business unit of Schlumberger Limited (NYSE:SLB), today announced that it has signed a contract with Hutchison 3G UK Limited (Hutchison 3G) to supply USIM (Universal Subscriber Identity Module) smart cards and provide training and support.
The contract calls for SchlumbergerSema to deliver its Usimera(a) cards to Hutchison 3G UK, as well as Hutchison Whampoa’s other 3G operations around the world.
Since SchlumbergerSema Usimera cards are designed to provide the highest levels of security for transactions, while optimizing memory capacity, they enable the secure deployment of data services and applications. “We believe SchlumbergerSema is the world’s leading provider of smart card solutions,” said Colin Tucker, managing director, Hutchison 3G. “Successful completion of their 3G trials, combined with their global production and training support capabilities, made them a sound choice. “USIMs are the most sophisticated smart cards ever supplied to the wireless communications industry, and a major catalyst for the development of secure 3G services,” said Xavier Chanay, vice president, Mobile Cards, SchlumbergerSema. “Our USIM cards are the culmination of many years of development effort, and we are pleased to be working with Hutchison 3G at the forefront of multimedia communications.”
