Infineon Launches Next Generation embedded Secure Element Combining Hardware and Operating Software; Increased Memory Space Supports Multiple NFC Applications on Same Device

Neubiberg, Germany, April 30, 2013–Infineon Technologies (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) today announced its latest generation embedded Secure Element for NFC applications on the occasion of the Contactless Intelligence Conference in London. The SLE97400SE embedded Secure Element is a turn-key solution consisting of an Integrity Guard-based security chip and the latest GlobalPlatform compliant operating software for management of multiple applications. Increased memory space of more than 100kByte provides ample space for payment and loyalty, authentication as well as transport and ticketing applications. The integrated DCLB communication interface increases compatibility of mobile devices and different NFC modems and allows system integrators to choose among a discrete or integrated NFC modem.

“With its new generation embedded Secure Element, Infineon allows service providers such as banks or telecommunication carriers to independently load and manage their applications whereby consumers benefit from combined mobile payment and loyalty or ticketing applications on the same device,” says Juergen Spaenkuch, Vice President and General Manager Platform Security at Infineon’s Chip Card & Security Division. “Hardware Security is mandatory for the success of NFC-based payment, ticketing or access control offerings. Infineon, as a leading supplier of security solutions, is determined to bring its security expertise to new mobile applications fueling their acceptance by end users and hence their success in the market.”

Increased Memory Space and Flexibilty

Infineon’s latest generation of SLE97400 Secure Elements provide ample memory space of more than 100kB and a small footprint ideally suited for stacking with Contactless frontend (CLF) / modems. The product is also available with a chip-scale-package (CSP) or USON package. The flexible Solid Flash-based security controller is bundled with a JavaCard3.0.1/GlobalPlatform2.2.1 compliant Operating System including its relevant amendments and supports all EMV payment applications. It implements latest specifications with post-issuance update capabilities.

THE SLE97400SE uses Infineon’s DCLB communication interface which has become a de-facto industry standard for secure and fast connection between the

embedded Secure Element in a mobile device and different NFC modems. The DCLB interface is currently licensed and supported by more than 10 major manufacturers of CLF and modems. Further information is available at http://www.infineon.com/SLE97400SE_ProductBrief
