LaserCard Appoints Alex Giakoumis as Senior Director, Technical Marketing

Supports Company’s Enhanced Focus on Multi-Technology ID Credential Platforms

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., October 20, 2009–LaserCard Corporation (NASDAQ:LCRD; http://www.lasercard.com), a leading provider of secure ID solutions, today announced that it has appointed Alex Giakoumis as Senior Director, Technical Marketing. In this new role, Giakoumis will be responsible for developing marketing initiatives that address the growing international demand for secure ID credentials incorporating customized combinations of secure machine readable technologies.

Giakoumis joins LaserCard with over 20 years of international marketing and business development experience in the smart card industry and was a Member of the Smart Card Alliance’s Executive Board from 2000 to 2006. He brings extensive knowledge of programs and partnerships in digital ID security including government and commercial projects covering smart cards, secure personal identification, e-passports, and driver licenses.

“Alex brings an exceptional depth of skills and industry knowledge to this new position, and we are very pleased to welcome him to LaserCard,” said Stephen Price-Francis, vice president of Marketing at LaserCard. “As we continue to address our customers’ increasing need to combine technologies on a single credential, we are beginning to unlock new potential for true multi-purpose credentials. Alex will spearhead an important new focus on this emerging market and the definition of future products and solutions.”

In response to market demand, LaserCard has developed a stream of new processes and capabilities allowing it to combine optical media with commonly used machine-readable technologies such as barcodes, optical character recognition, contact and contactless chips, RFID tags and magnetic stripes. This flexibility allows customers to select any single technology or specify a customized combination that takes advantage of installed bases of these machine-readable technologies while capitalizing on the optical media for visual authentication and ID verification, counterfeit resistance and secure, portable data storage.

“Alex is an influential and highly respected member of our community,” said Randy Vanderhoof, Executive Director of the Smart Card Alliance. “With Alex on board to lead their strategy for teaming with the smart card community, I look forward to seeing LaserCard positioned to address the increasing opportunities for ID solutions that integrate chip technologies with optical security media.”
