Now showing: ASK Universal Contactless Module (UCM 108)

A compact, highly integrated and multi-standard contactless module

Sophia-Antipolis, October 23, 2008–ASK will unveil at Cartes show its latest contactless OEM device: the UCM108, a universal, multi-standard contactless module. This unique and flexible core module complies with ISO 14443 type A, B, B’ standard as well as Felica®, NFC and Mifare® protocols.

The size of a 2 euros coin, UCM108 benefits from a highly integrated, powerful architecture (ARM7) and a high speed communication data rate.

Multiple interfaces (including native USB) enable connections to a PC or any other host system for a diversity of contactless applications whereas security is maximized with up to 4 embedded SAM. For added services features, integrated I²C and SPI buses can drive peripherals such as a keyboard, a display or I/Os.

“ASK has always capitalized on a twofold expertise in hardware and contactless media, says Philippe Courteaux, Head of Contactless Terminals Business Unit. The UCM 108 fits perfectly the company’s strategy to address new market segments and offer system integrators and vendors an affordable solution to easily migrate to contactless technology, he adds.”

UCM 108 is the core of a contactless system and customized antenna can be developed for clients’ specific projects to provide the most suitable coupler solution. A contactless interface for handheld or mobile readers, integrated into vending machines or ATM’s, UCM is the new platform of a whole range of dedicated couplers for mass transit, e-Identity, payment and physical and logical access control.

New developments based on the UCM architecture will be announced in the coming months…
