Paris, France, July 26, 2010–Oberthur Technologies, the world’s second largest provider of smart card solutions, announced the completion of a multi-million dollar, 75,000 square foot manufacturing facility and service center in Cotia, Brazil. The new facility, slated to be fully operational by the fourth quarter of this year, will provide a single source vendor solution for design, manufacturing, personalization and fulfillment of mobile SIM cards, payment cards and identification credentials to customers in Brazil and throughout Latin America. Existing manufacturing and personalization activities already based in Cotia will be regrouped into this new facility.

“Oberthur Technologies strong commitment to Brazil and the tremendous amount of growth we’re seeing in Latin America made this expansion necessary,” said Martin Ferenczi, Managing Director, Americas, Card Systems Division at Oberthur Technologies. “Having a facility of this size and focus will allow us to better serve the increased demands of our current customer base while at the same time allow us to meet the growing needs of new customers by providing enhanced SIM cards and secure payment cards, including the need to quickly convert from standard payment cards to EMV.”

The new facility, which will be able to produce over 100 million cards a year, will also expand Oberthur’s offering of secured identification credentials, including dual-hybrid polycarbonate smart cards that can be used for driver’s licenses and I.D. badges for both government and non government entities.

Oberthur Technologies has 11 other manufacturing facilities globally and over 30 service centers to meet the needs of its customers.
