ActivIdentity Smart Card Solutions Achieve FIPS 140-2 Certification; ActivClient Achieves FIPS 201 Certification

(Nasdaq: ACTI), a global leader in digital identity assurance, today announced the company continues to deliver security solutions that meet strict government guidelines for information and identity protection. Two additional ActivIdentity smart card solutions have successfully achieved the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 Level 2 certification, with multiple ActivIdentity Smart Card Applets versions allowed for each certificate. Additionally, on May 23, 2006, the ActivIdentity ActivClient™ PIV API received a FIPS 201 Certificate from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in support of Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 201.

Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD) 12 addresses the security and reliability of Federal identification through consistent standards for secure credentials. The FIPS 201 program, entitled Personal Identity Verification of Federal Employees and Contractors (PIV), was developed to satisfy the requirements of HSPD-12. Several agencies have an existing smart card infrastructure in place, and can rely on PIV Transitional specifications as a first step to meet the HSPD-12 mandate. Other agencies with no existing infrastructure are expected to implement the PIV End Point specifications to meet compliance.
