Datacard Ga-Vehren Systems Cut Card Personalization and Packaging Costs with Patent Pending “One-Pass” Efficiency

Single integrated system can reduce operational costs and cut work-in-process time

Minnetonka, MN USA, June 19, 2007–Datacard Ga-Vehren Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of DataCard Corporation, has developed and sold an integrated personalization and print finishing solution for multiple markets, most notably the gift-card market. This solution creates a “one-pass” system that can create greater efficiency and security in many operations.

Datacard Ga-Vehren is the pioneer of the inline personalization and finishing process dating back to products introduced over 15 years ago. These systems combine the best of the high-speed Datacard Ga-Vehren Attacher® Print Finishing System and Datacard® CPST MJ7500™ Card Personalization System to integrate the personalization of a card and/or carrier, with the affixing and finishing of the card to the carrier. This patent pending process can be applied to multiple card, carrier, and object formats on either the Attacher® print finishing system or the MJ7500™ card personalization system platform.

The typical production process requires two discrete systems; one for card personalization and one for packaging/card-affixing. In the inline, integrated process, a single system can personalize the card by printing a bar code and encoding the magnetic stripe, affix the card to a carrier, and complete additional print finishing steps at speeds up to 20,000 per hour. A single system will significantly reduce operational costs such as labor and power consumption. In addition, users also save floor space, limit their capital investments, and cut work-in-process time while minimizing the handling of the personalized items. The ultimate savings in a single, inline system depends on the type of operation and jobs being run.

“Customers who have installed an integrated personalization and print finishing system on one platform have seen 25% to 40% reductions in manufacturing costs,” says Jeff Peters, Vice President and Managing Director of Datacard Ga-Vehren Corporation. “This is very significant given the competitive and unpredictable nature of the gift-card and direct mail business.”

Datacard Group offers the world’s best-selling secure ID and card personalization solutions.
