Envoy Data Adds Gemalto’s On-Demand Smart Card Admin Service to its Lineup

RSA CONFERENCE 2008, SAN FRANCISCO, April 8, 2008–Gemalto, the world leader in digital security, is making it easy for small and medium size businesses (SMBs) to implement smart card network security with a new Web-based Device Administration Service (DAS). Now Envoy Data Corporation will offer Gemalto’s comprehensive service through its network of IT security specialized VARs.

“Demand for smart card security clearly exists in SMBs, but until now the available card management solutions were overkill,” said Jeff Ciraulo, vice president marketing for Envoy Data. “Gemalto solved the problem by introducing a subscription-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution that gives SMBs everything they need. They did a truly innovative job of coming up with the right set of capabilities tailored to meet the needs of smaller organizations and our joint channel partners.”

Gemalto’s DAS enables IT administrators to issue and manage the new Smart Enterprise Guardian (SEG) or any other Gemalto .NET device in the Protiva family. An intuitive end-user portal is included with DAS that lets users service themselves for routine tasks such as unblocking locked cards, changing PIN codes or even placing digital certificates on their devices themselves.

Since Gemalto hosts the service, no large investment in card management hardware and software is required.

“Our goal with DAS is to provide a turnkey solution with everything you need to deploy and manage two-factor authentication using a simple Internet browser interface,” said Francois Lasnier, vice president and general manager, security, for Gemalto North America. “We made it easy to do day-to-day tasks and simplified the supply chain to speed up deployment. For example, a small business or a channel partner can safely keep blank devices in inventory, and then activate and deploy them in real-time when needed.”

Gemalto’s .NET cards or USB tokens use an on-board microprocessor and software to secure logins to desktops or networks. They act as a “second factor” for authentication when logging in to desktops or networks. These secure personal devices protect organizations and individuals from the risks of stolen passwords from phishing, keyboard logging or just carelessness. The cards and secure USB dongles can also be used to encrypt email, or digitally sign emails or electronic documents. And the latest Gemalto SEG USB device also features PIN protected Flash memory and hard disk encryption capabilities.
