Gemalto Achieves Latest SECCOS Certification for its Banking Cards in Germany

Ready now for mass deployment, Desineo Seccos 6.1 allows German banks to offer the EMV Common Payment Application to their customers and ease SEPA deployment in Germany

Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Jan 10, 2008 – Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security, today announces its Desineo banking card has been certified by the Zentraler Kreditausschuss (ZKA) in compliance with the Secure Chip Card Operating System (SECCOS) version 6.1 specifications. The Gemalto Desineo banking card product is one of the most advanced in the world: it incorporates both banking applications such as the electronic purse Geldkarte and the electronic cash access offline, the Girocard EMV (Europay-MasterCard-Visa) application and the EMV Common Payment Application (CPA). It also integrates the TAN generator functionality for secure home banking, and other applications such as digital signature (certified according to the German Digital Signature act SigG/SigV), electronic ticketing and Marktplatz loyalty.

Desineo Seccos v6.1 leverages Gemalto’s 10 years’ experience in the German banking and healthcare markets and this new certification demonstrates Gemalto’s expertise in developing tailor-made products in compliance with a country’s high security specific standards. Gemalto is one of the first companies to offer a product, evaluated Common Criteria EAL4+ (Evaluation Assurance Level) with a chip certified EAL5+, which incorporates the Common Payment Application. With Desineo Seccos v6.1, German banks will benefit from the highest levels of security and state-of-the-art technology for both credit and debit cards.
