Gemalto Joins McAfee Security Innovation Alliance

Integrated solution enables early, secure and convenient access to encrypted disks

RSA CONFERENCE 2009, SAN FRANCISCO, April 22, 2009 – Gemalto, the world leader in digital security, today announced that it has joined the McAfee® Security Innovation Alliance™ (SIA) partner program. Under the McAfee SIA program, Gemalto has integrated its Protiva Enterprise Authentication Solutions with McAfee Endpoint Encryption software for pre-boot authentication. The combined solution provides PC and laptop users with secure and convenient access to fully encrypted disks through strong, secure, hardware-based, two-factor authentication.

“Using Gemalto’s authentication solutions at pre-boot complements McAfee Endpoint Encryption software, as users have to prove their identities at the very first step of computer usage – before even starting the operating system – in order to access their encrypted hard drive,” said Joe Gottlieb, vice president of corporate strategy and technology alliances, McAfee. “We’re thrilled to see Gemalto leverage McAfee’s investment in its security risk management platform and extend this value to our joint customers.”

McAfee Endpoint Encryption software includes full disk encryption to ensure security of information stored on desktops, laptops, tablets and other mobile devices. The encryption is transparent to the user, performed as needed, and does not affect user productivity. Security administrators can set a system to prompt for authentication before it even starts booting to protect against possible attacks on the operating system, or just before it is finished booting. Users must insert their Gemalto digital security device and enter a passphrase or PIN before being authorized to access the system data. This pre-boot authentication procedure provides the earliest and highest levels of security that only two-factor authentication can provide. McAfee Endpoint Encryption software already supports various Gemalto solutions out of the box, such as .NET and Classic smart cards and the Smart Enterprise Guardian (SEG) USB token.

“A key goal behind the McAfee Security Innovation Alliance program is to accelerate the development of interoperable security products and simplify the integration of those products with complex customer environments,” said Jerome Denis, marketing director for Identity Access Management at Gemalto. “Through joining the McAfee Security Innovation Alliance program, we can provide organizations with an interoperable solution for stronger and earlier authentication that helps secure data and avoid costly data breaches.”

The McAfee Security Innovation Alliance is the foundation of a technology ecosystem designed to assemble the world’s leading security innovations. For more information on the McAfee SIA program and McAfee Endpoint Encryption software, please visit: http://www.mcafee.com/sia.
