Gemalto Launches New e-Health Terminal for German Market with Innovative Services
Remarkably compact, with a large display for greater ergonomics
Amsterdam, the Netherlands, April 14, 2009 – Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security, today announced commercial launch of its Sealys e-health terminal, specially designed for the German market. The product has been approved by Gematik, which establishes that it meets the stringent security requirements of the country’s e-healthcare system. Gematik is the authority in charge of defining and approving the healthcare infrastructure in Germany. The Gemalto terminal has been designed with convenience and ease of use in mind: it is remarkably compact and offers a large display for greater ergonomics.
The product is fully and immediately operational with the current healthcare system. It also has all the necessary features to operate in online mode in connection with the future “Telematik” infrastructure, due to be implemented in 2010, and will offer health professionals all the services provided by this new healthcare system.
New services include access to the patient’s electronic medical file and emergency data such as blood group, allergies and ongoing treatment records. Doctors will also be able to issue electronic prescriptions that facilitate data exchange with pharmacists and reduce fraud, while eliminating paperwork. The Gemalto terminal offers optional connection of biometric and contactless devices, allowing doctors to sign e-prescriptions using their fingerprint or any contactless device.
“Gemalto is a key player in the German healthcare program with major contracts related to the e-health card. Our customers will benefit from perfect interoperability along with deep knowledge of the application, and not simply from a terminal point of view as any hardware vendor,” commented Jacques Seneca, executive vice president of the Security Business Unit for Gemalto. “After the success of the “GCR 550”, our classic health card reader, this new release has been developed to incorporate the latest technological advances requested by German health professionals.”
