Gemalto Selected to Provide Citibank Taiwan With EMV Turnkey Solution

Amsterdam–Taipei, June 12, 2007–Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), a world leader in digital security, today announces that Citibank Taiwan selected Gemalto as exclusive EMV (Europay, MasterCard, VISA) migration launch partner and to provide over 1 million banking cards, personalization services and turnkey solution.

Delivering worldwide EMV migration projects, Gemalto serves the world’s financial community with banking microprocessor cards and personalization services. Complying with international banking security requirements, EMV banking cards provide greater protection against fraud than traditional magnetic stripe banking cards, and in turn gives greater peace of mind to card holders.

“A migration of technology of this scale, being Taiwan’s largest foreign bank, is fraught with challenges, and careful planning and extra diligence is necessary,” said Daniel Huang, vice president, Transaction Service Group of Citibank Taiwan. “Experience counts for a lot and having a one-stop-shop makes life easier for everyone involved. Migration to EMV microprocessor card technology is an important milestone and we believe our customers will benefit from the enhanced security provided whilst maintaining the same levels of convenience.”

Gemalto’s ability to provide digital security extends beyond the card, and a complete end-to-end service program is being built for Citibank cardholders, who are able to choose from a variety of Citibank services which employ a wide range of card technologies. Once the service is selected, cardholder data is sent securely to Gemalto’s local personalization center, where the corresponding card is personalized, packaged and prepared for delivery to the cardholder.

“Gemalto has largely contributed to EMV migrations worldwide, and this strong experience enables us to pass on its benefits to our customers” said Tan Teck Lee, president of Gemalto North Asia. “We are proud to be able to offer such a complete service bringing all of our expertise and services together in Taiwan for Citibank. We pride ourselves in being able to provide strong local service and support and believe this is a critical component in maintaining a strong partnership.”
