Gemplus’s Operation Center enables subscriber management services for a total of sixteen wireless carriers

Luxembourg, Las Vegas, NEVADA, RCA Annual Convention, March 31, 2005–Gemplus International S.A. (Euronext: LU0121706294–GEM and NASDAQ: GEMP), the world’s leading provider of smart card solutions, today announces that U.S. wireless carriers Plateau Wireless, Douglas Communications, Endless Telecom, Farmers Wireless, Petrocom, LLC, and RCC have selected its SIM cards and OTA (over-the-air) provisioning services for their GSM launches.

With the addition of these six new customers, Gemplus confirms its leadership in the U.S. for operated services among regional and rural carriers[1]. The six carriers chose Gemplus’s remote provisioning and subscription management services, which enables them to introduce new SIM services and remotely manage the SIM cards in a rapid and cost-effective manner.

“Gemplus’s operated services solution offers Plateau Wireless a way to manage subscriptions and SIM provisioning without the need to invest in an in-house service bureau,” said Joel Drahman, wireless Chief Operating Officer at Plateau Wireless.

With more than three years of experience, Gemplus provides OTA provisioning of SIM cards to a total of sixteen carriers in the U.S. through its Operation Center in Dallas, Texas and enables subscriber management services for many other carriers around the world. Gemplus also provides software tools to manage SIM card files, training, packaging services, and various SIM card applications such as enhanced phonebook capabilities and Roaming Control to keep subscribers on their home network longer.

“RCC feels that Gemplus has a seasoned team that is well-versed in the GSM field, and we have full confidence in their systems and abilities. Gemplus’s OTA provisioning saves us time and resources in integration, allowing us to focus on delivering superior service to our subscribers,” said Jim Altstadt, customer equipment director at RCC. “We benefit from Gemplus’s growing success and look forward to working with them to expand our GSM services.”
