Department of Veteran Affairs Enhances Integrity with CoreStreet Credential Validation Technology

CoreStreet Teams with Verizon Business to Provide Federal Agency with Managed Validation Services; Helps Protect Identity of Personnel in Central, Regional Departmental Offices

Cambridge, Mass., Sept. 8, 2008–Driven by Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) goals and implementations, CoreStreet, the leader in credential validation solutions, today announced that the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) will leverage CoreStreet’s credential validation technology for the validation services required as part of its HSPD-12 smart card program.

The VA will use distributed Responder Appliances from CoreStreet to provide immediate validation of Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 201 compliant Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credentials used throughout the central and regional offices of the Department.

Verizon Business, a leading global provider for managed information security solutions to businesses and government agencies worldwide, will host and manage the Veterans Affairs credential solutions in a secure Verizon Business data center that is supported 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with critical services backed up by redundant systems including a hot back-up site with round-the-clock support.

“Under HSPD-12, every federal employee and contractor is required to have a single credential that provides access to secure physical locations and logical systems,” said T. Jeff Vining, Gartner Research vice president, covering Homeland Security and Law Enforcement. “Momentum for HSPD-12 products and services is likely to increase as organizations look to integrate these credentials into their security practices and processes.”

“Complying with the standards set out by FIPS 201 has proved daunting for many groups, but in 2007 we saw a clear shift from HSPD-12 testing to implementation,” said Chris Broderick, CEO, CoreStreet. “The Veterans Affairs agency has been on the forefront in the implementation of the HSPD-12 directive and together with Verizon Business we are providing the agency with a complete solution that’s easy to deploy and manage.”

Increase in Demand, Adoption of Technology
Over the past year, CoreStreet has substantially expanded its presence with U.S. government agencies, leveraging its past success in providing the critical Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificate validation technology behind the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Robust Certificate Validation Service (RCVS).

The CoreStreet go-to-market strategy for the government market is based on strong partnerships with leading government Systems Integrators (SI) as well as with Certificate Authority (CA) vendors and service providers. In 2007, CoreStreet added Verizon Business to its list of key business affiliates.

“Verizon Business has been a leader in providing security services to governments around the world,” said Kerry Bailey, vice president of Verizon Business Security Solutions. “With more than 15 years of experience assessing risk and designing and implementing global security solutions, Verizon Business is one of the few providers that offers both the security and government expertise to deliver a full credentialing service. Joining forces with CoreStreet underscores our commitment to delivering one of the most secure, reliable and scalable credential solutions on the market to our customers.”
