MasterCard Introduces Comprehensive Roadmap Advancing Electronic Payments

EMV chip cards will be the core of the next generation of U.S. electronic payments and the transition is starting now, as both MasterCard and Visa have made clear in public statements on their U.S. roadmaps. On January 30, 2012, MasterCard introduced a comprehensive strategy solidifying EMV chip cards as the foundation for the future of U.S. payments. This aligns with Visa’s plans to accelerate the migration of the U.S. to EMV contact and contactless chip technology announced in August 2011, as well as MasterCard’s earlier announcement on incentives for their U.S. ATM network to upgrade to EMV chip card acceptance.
