VeriFone wireless payment scales new heights on Ben Nevis charity climb
London, July 15, 2009 – A VeriFone Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: PAY), team put the company’s mobile payment system to unusually high stress recently: completing a debit card transaction wirelessly from atop snowy Ben Nevis during a fundraising climb organised by VeriFone customer Lloyd’s TSB Cardnet to benefit SportsAid.
Cardnet’s climbing group numbered 30, including its own staff as well as personnel from several of its suppliers and vendors, including a five-person VeriFone team. The group raised over £5000 for the SportsAid charity, with VeriFone contributing £1000 of the total.
“It was tremendous fun joining in Cardnet’s Ben Nevis Challenge and we’re delighted that VeriFone technology now has the unique distinction of enabling the highest land-based payment transaction in the UK,” said David Poole, vice president of sales with VeriFone.
Fundraising efforts support the Lloyds TSB Local Heroes programme, which provides funding to 250 emerging young sportspeople identified each year from local communities across Britain on their journey to London 2012 and beyond. Lloyds TSB works in partnership with SportsAid on identifying this talent of tomorrow. The SportsAid charity focuses on providing much needed grants to youngsters aged 12 to 18, from 50 able-bodied and 25 disability sports.
VeriFone’s climbers were Vicki Rossiter, Laurel Wolfe, David Poole, Mike Staples and Matt Baker.
