Gemalto Unveils the Latest Innovations in Digital Security to Halimah Yacob, MP for Jurong GRC, in Singapore

Madam Halimah recognizes the ease of use, convenience and security that personal digital security solutions bring to citizens

Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Aug 26, 2008–Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security, today announces that Madam Halimah Yacob, Member of Parliament for Jurong Group Representation Constituency, was welcomed to its Singapore manufacturing facilities on July 24 to be presented the company’s digital security solutions. At the Experience Gemalto Zone, Madam Halimah was introduced to innovative, upcoming technology such as NFC (Near-Field Communication) and e-government solutions. During her visit, Madam Halimah expressed her support for the services and benefits that digital security technology is able to offer to citizens in Singapore today. In particular, Madam Halimah showed strong interest in Gemalto’s Health ID solutions, which she hopes to see offered in Singapore.

“The scope for a company like Gemalto is tremendous as we go beyond cashless and even use mobile phones for payments,” said Madam Halimah. “I believe that digital technology can make life easier for all, especially for elderly persons. In particular, Gemalto Health ID solutions facilitate the transfer of records between health professionals and patients, who hold their own record. Doctors can easily retrieve their medical history quickly and accurately, and patients no longer need to keep track of their personal information manually.”

Gemalto is the trusted partner in several countries around the world and contributes to more efficient national healthcare systems for the benefits of patients, health insurances and health professionals. The company’s IT solutions mean better control and services. Their implementation streamlines the prescription process, improves the quality of care given and simplifies management through a coordinated health service process.

“Innovation in digital security technology promises many new and exciting services to the consumer. Gemalto has already started deploying innovative technologies such as NFC, mobile TV, and Health ID in countries around the region. Singapore remains one of the key markets for us here, and we are strongly committed to growing the adoption of the latest in technology in the Republic,” added Tan Teck Lee, President of Gemalto Asia.

Gemalto has forged strong ties with Singapore since it established the country as its regional Asia Pacific headquarters over 18 years ago. The local office has grown its business to about 1000 employees. The state of the art facilities in Singapore is one of Gemalto’s largest operations worldwide, housing manufacturing, R&D and sales and marketing facilities. Some notable local deployments the company has participated in over the years are the Singapore ePassport and ID, the NETS CashCard, and the NTUC Card.

Madam Halimah is also the Executive Secretary of the United Workers of Electronic and Electrical Industries, the Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee on Health, the Chairman of the Jurong Town Council, the Deputy Secretary General of National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and is responsible for Legal Services, Women’s Development and Industrial Relations in the Public Sector.
